ARGRICULTURE

Soil is a priority in agriculture. Soil determines the growth and development of plants. And pH plays a big role. If the pH is out of balance, it makes the soil acidic and harms the plant. As the results, the plant will not have enough nutrients which lead to decrease of nutrients and crop failure. Lime has siginificant effects on reducing acidity and increasing nutrients for the soil.

Lime has a deacidizing effect on the soil. Improve fertilizer/herbicide efficiency. Acidic soils also reduce the effectiveness of pesticides or fertilizers. By restoring soil to a more neutral pH level, it can help improve the effectiveness of fertilizers and herbicides. Plants will be less susceptible to pests and diseases and will grow well.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

Lime is one of the important raw materials in the construction industry. Lime is an ingredient to produce mortar in buildings. It gives this mixture a higher viscosity and firmness. Lime is used to paint walls: Creating a new layer of protection, not only whitens and beautifies the wall, but also helps to increase the durability of the wall against the effects of weather, temperature, light or other factors such as moss, mold.

ENVIRONMENT

Lime has great benefits for the environment Lime helps reduce air pollution. When humans exploit and burn fossil fuels, toxic gases from this fuel such as sulfur, mercury, and methane will be released directly into the atmosphere, becoming the main cause of acid rain and destroying the environment. Lime absorbs and neutralizes sulfur oxides from these gases, helping to prevent acid rain and reduce emissions of air pollutants. In addition, lime also eliminates odours. Lime is useful for wastewater treatment. In wastewater treatment plants, lime is used to adjust the pH in the acidic sewage, which agglomerates heavy metals and phosphates. Moreover, lime helps to treat industrial residues, dredged waste from sewers.

FOOD INDUSTRY

Tortillas which is the flour made from corn treated with Calcium Hydroxide. Use to make baking soda. Liem improve food preservation, specially fruits and vegetables. In particular, Lime has a high application in the Refined Sugar Industry. In beverage production, lime powder is used for water treatment and salt cleaning in the food industry.

PULP AND PAPER

Calcium carbonate is used in both paper coating and as a paper filler. Calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide is the raw material required for the PCC manufacturing process. In the paper and pulp industry, lime is used as a filler and coating agent which help to reduce fiber bonding, reduces the hardness, reduce paper porosity. On the other hand, the fillers support increasing whiteness, and opacity of paper and reduce color rendering since fillers block the effects of sunlight.

STEEL INDUSTRY

Lime removes impurities (eg, silica, phosphorus, sulfur) from manufactured steel. Sulfur can also damage steel by making it more fragile, causing cracks. Therefore, quicklime is used to reduce its percentage in steel compost and to minimize its negative impact. This process improves the quality of the steel. Lime is also used to extend the life of refractory materials in kilns. Magnesium oxide (MgO) in dolomite lime reduces the tendency of steel slag to dissolve MgO in furnace refractories.
